On Sunday we got up early and went Downtown to watch the Vancouver Marathon. We found a great spot on the Seawall just outside of Stanley Park, 1 mile from the finish and got a good view of the front runners as they sped past us (and I mean sped – these guys were amazing!). Here are some pix of the winners in action:
Gezahgn Eshetu and Benard Onsare duke it out for first and second place with 1 mile to go….

Gezahgn Eshetu from Ethiopia was the 2012 Marathon winner in 2:21:50

Ryan Day from Victoria came 3rd…

Ellie Greenwood was the first woman to cross the finish line in 2:42:15

Mary Akor finished in 2nd place…

Catrin Jones from Victoria placed 3rd.

Although it was great to see the winners go by, the main reason we went Downtown was to support Susannah’s nephew Eric who was running in his first ever marathon. He had a target time of 3 hours and we hope to be able to spur him on at the last mile. Here is is, looking amazing!

Not only did Eric finish the race in an amazing time of 2:56:46, but he also placed 3rd in his age group. Way to go Eric!!!
Eric Holdijk with his Men’s 20-24 category 3rd place medal. Yay!

It was a great day to be outside, fun to cheer and inspiring to see all the folk who made it out to run…..5251 marathon runners and 10185 half marathon runners! Great job everyone!
Big Sis - Great work Eric. Well done!
