This is Jessica and Peter’s wedding at the UBC Boathouse in Richmond. Their day was a hot one!

We started out at the River Rock Resort with the guys and gals getting ready.

Jessica had the most amazing eyelashes….

It was so hot and bright – we were happy to find a small patch of shade.

Next we went to Finn Slough (I have to admit that I didn’t even know about this little gem of a place). The bridge was a bit rickety and not too stable, but everyone was game to do shots there – well done everyone!

We ended our shoot with refreshments at the Bubble Tea Place where Peter and Jessica had their first date :)

Then Jessica and Peter changed into their party gear and in honour of Peter’s heritage demonstrated a Dutch drinking song (born from Olympic celebrations at Heineken House).

sabrina + mark – june 26, 2010

Tuesday, July 6th, 2010

Mark and Sabrina were married out at UBC where they were students and had their wedding reception at Vancouver’s beautiful Shaughnessy Golf and Country Club. I was pretty happy when Mark and Sabrina contacted us to shoot their Vancouver wedding and reception as last July we shot Mark’s sister Heather’s wedding in White Rock and so knew half the family at least :-)

Susannah started the day at Mark’s family’s house with the guys getting ready. These guys were not shy.

lily + steve – june 25, 2010

Saturday, July 3rd, 2010

Lily and Steve and all of their guests came up from the States for their destination Vancouver wedding at Queen Elizabeth Park. We met them for the very first time earlier in the week and we were so happy – they are such awesome people and really easy going and I knew their wedding at Queen Elizabeth Park’s Celebration Pavilion and reception at VanDusen’s Shaugnessy Restaurant were going to be fun.

Here are a few shots from their day….

Lily, and the girls making their way from the limo to the bridal room at QE Park….

Steve’s first look at Lily as she came down the aisle….

Here’s a shot taken during the ceremony, officiated by the ever lovely and entertaining Allan Burnett. You can see the circular pavilion was opened right up which provided a stunning backdrop of greenery for the ceremony. This unique feature makes the Pavilion a great ceremony site – it’s both open and private at the same time.

We wandered around the garden for 20 minutes or so before heading off to the reception at VanDusen. There are so many places to shoot at QE Park that I could have continued shooting for ages. It was especially nice as rain had seemed a possibility but as you can see it was a beautiful day! Good old unpredictable Vancouver!

Their reception at Shaughnessy Restaurant was a filled with fun and love. Here’s Lily and Steve’s first dance….

Next was the father/daughter dance. Now I’ve seen many a daughter dance with her father, but this one was THE most moving ever! Both Susannah and I teared up. I think it was Lily’s Dad’s face – his expression contained a mix of loving emotions – so moving….

Vancouver wedding photographer, Vancouver wedding photography, Shaughnessy Restaurant

Just so you know we were not the only ones moved, here’s Steve watching….

Vancouver wedding photographer, Vancouver wedding photography, Shaughnessy Restaurant

Yup, everyone felt the same…

Vancouver wedding photographer, Vancouver wedding photography, Shaughnessy Restaurant

There were not just tears, but lots of laughter as well. This was a great crowd – close friends and family who’d all travelled to celebrate with Lily and Steve.

Susannah and I were certainly lucky to be a part of the day. All the best you two!

tila – trash the dress

Saturday, May 22nd, 2010

What is Trash the Dress? These days Trash the Dress (TTD) ranges from high fashion to brides crawling around in the mud. My take on it is to place a beautiful bride in a dramatic setting, whether that be natural or urban; to create images that we possibly can’t get on your wedding day.

When Tila and Nels booked us for their wedding Tila said she was interested in doing a Trash the Dress session. This couple were super fun on their wedding shoot so I knew the TTD session would be good.

We met up at Third Beach in the evening and started with some shots in the forest. Tila had had her hair and makeup done and was wearing her dress with a giant pair of gumboots.

Then we headed down to the beach. The evening light was so pretty….

How awesome was Tila? She had brought the gumboots so she could wade in the water, but on the spur of the moment she decided just to go for it. I think the photos are totally worth it!

I LOVED doing this shoot :)

Why do a Trash the Dress shoot? Well, if you love your dress, but want an alternative to storing it away, never to be used again, then this could be for you. You’ll get images to keep or display that will last forever.

Eliza and Bart – September 19, 2009

Wednesday, September 23rd, 2009
We started the day with Eliza and Bart in Stanley Park at the Rose Garden. We had made alternate plans as the day was forecast as rainy…not just rainy but VERY rainy, but once again the weather gods smiled down upon us and the sky just got bluer and bluer as the morning went on.

Here’s Bart…

…and Eliza….

The girls….

…and the guys…

I described this shot as similar to the Beatles “Abby Road” cover, but one of the guys knew it as the Red Hot Chili Peppers version. Yeah, but with clothes!

Under the archway.

Susannah got talking to this elderly couple sitting on the bench enjoying the sun. We decided to do a shot with them in it.

These two are naturally sexy!

Then it was over to St Casimir’s for their ceremony (in Polish!). Here’s Eliza sharing a moment with someone behind…

The newlyweds…

Their rings – engraved with initials and date…

At the reception Eliza and Bart we greeted by their parents and blessed with the giving and receiving of bread…

Here’s their first dance…

And lastly, one of my favorites of the day…

Congratulations Eliza and Bart and all the best for your future together!

Anna & David – September 12, 2009

Monday, September 14th, 2009
Anna & David were married at Minoru Chapel. I started the day at Anna’s parents’ house just as Anna was having her veil put in.

Here’s our beautiful bride…

Anna and David had a 1930′s Buick as their wedding car…
Here is Anna’s Dad walking her down the aisle. I love the look on David’s Mom’s face as she sees her soon to be daughter-in-law….

After the ceremony the newlyweds released doves….

Then we headed Downtown to Coal Harbour to do some city shots…

Best dip of the year!

Back at the Roma Hall for the reception. Here are a few images of the decor…
Ice-sculpture…
Rings and favours (wine stoppers – the wine for the reception was made by Anna’s Dad).
Congratulations Anna and David!

Alix & Nick – September 7, 2009

Monday, September 14th, 2009
Alix and Nick hired me from the States for their destination wedding in Vancouver and as they only arrived the day before we met for the very first time at their wedding.
It was our pleasure to photograph their Orthodox wedding at St Sava’s on 63rd Ave. Rich in colour and tradition, it was amazing to be a part of. Here are a few of the elements of the ceremony.
The church…

The crowns…

Being led around the table three times…
Married!
Kissing the cross…
After the ceremony we headed to Queen Elizabeth Park for family photos and then some couple shots. It had poured with rain on Sunday but Vancouver put on it’s best weather for our visitors…

Alix and Nick joined the group of friends and relatives who had traveled here for the ceremony for a lunch reception at Seasons in the Park. I loved their cake topper…

And their favours – luggage tags!

The newlyweds were departing on an Alaskan Cruise for their honeymoon that afternoon. Here is their ship behind them at Canada Place…

It was our pleasure to meet you both.  Happy Cruising!

Christine & Andrew – September 5, 2009

Monday, September 14th, 2009
Well the Labour Day long weekend is the last big weekend of the summer. This long weekend weather forecast? 100% rain, rain, rain. So, how surprised were we all to wake up on Saturday morning to find that we might be lucky and the rain might hold off? Very…..phew!

I caught up with the ladies at bridesmaid Julia’s house in North Van, quite close to the venue. I had shot Julia and Evren‘s wedding in 2007 (was it really 2 years ago?) and it was great to see them again.
Everyone was running around getting ready, but Christine seemed very calm and collected…

Here’s Christine, ready to go…
Meanwhile, Andrew waiting at Canyon House at the Capilano Suspension Bridge, was getting some nerve calming help from his brother…
The guys, led by the Minister, having a final moment just before the ceremony…
Andrew’s ring proved to be a bit stubborn…
After the ceremony we managed to clear the throngs of tourists from part of the bridge for a minute…
And did some shots in the forest…
Back at the reception there was singing….
…cupcakes….
…and some great speeches….
Here’s our last shot of the night before the party continued on with dancing. Congratulations Christine and Andrew!

Lisa and Jeffrey – August 31, 2009

Friday, September 4th, 2009
I met up with Lisa at Pamper Me Pretty Salon in Vancouver….

Before heading to her Mom’s house where Lisa was getting dressed….

Jeffrey had gone to a barber for a clean shave…

And here he is…

The ceremony was at St Mary’s in Kerrisdale which is a beautiful wooden church with lovely stained glass. Here are a few shots from Lisa and Jeff’s ceremony….
Jeff seeing Lisa for the first time…
I love this look….
After the ceremony Jeff and his brother jumped for joy (jk).
We did our photoshoot on campus at UBC where Lisa and Jeffrey studied together…
Then we went to Queen Elizabeth Park – their reception was at Seasons in the Park.
Here is their first dance….

Congratulations Lisa and Jeffrey – all the best for the future and have a great trip too!

James & Rachelle – August 22, 2009

Friday, September 4th, 2009
Wow, 2 weeks since James and Rachelle tied the knot!  I have been super busy moving studios as well as shooting so am a bit slow to post, but more about that later…..
James and Rachelle both got ready at the Sheraton Guildford in Surrey in separate rooms on separate floors.  I started the day with the girls.  Here are a few shots of Rachelle getting ready….

Rachelle and her Mom….

And our beautiful bride….
Meanwhile, Susannah was with the guys a few floors below…
Here’s our groom…

On to the church. This little guy was the happiest ringbearer I’ve ever seen – laughing and running down the aisle…

A couple from the ceremony….

After the ceremony we went to Bear Creek Park for some photos…

Then it was back to the Sheraton for the reception which was filled with dancing, laughter and a whole lot of fun.  Here’s James during the money dance…
And our final shot of the night….

Congratulations James and Rachelle!
